We know it’s a
bitter pill to swallow… But Aims First Technologies
can help it go down a little easier…really.
Briefly, HIPAA
requires all persons or businesses handling, storing
and transmitting Patient Health Information (PHI), take
steps to secure and insure the privacy and confidentiality
of the PHI.
The dates of required
compliance are listed below:
October 15, 2002
– Electronic Transactions extension request deadline
October 16, 2002 – Electronic Transactions deadline
without extension
April 14, 2003 – Privacy Deadline
October 16, 2003 – Electronic Transactions (small
health plans and those who filed for extensions prior
to 10-16-2002)
April 14, 2004 – Extended Business Associate contract
deadline
HIPAA compliance
is something all who handle Patient Health Information
must recognize, understand and act on. The sand is running
out and the remaining deadlines are fast approaching,
but when to find the time, and then, what to do?
Aims First Technologies
can assist you with the HIPAA compliance challenges
you face, and do it in quickly and economically. Give
us 30 minutes in a fact-finding, non-decision making
consultation to discuss your business and how it can
meet the HIPAA regulations. Our initial consultation
is free.
We offer the following
services:
· Assessment –
of your physical facilities, including computers, networks
and software and of business practices, policies and
procedures.
· Restructuring
– Assisting in the creation and implementation of necessary
modifications to your physical facilities and your practices,
policies and procedures.
· Education –
Conducting the formal education of all staff in the
HIPAA law and how Patient Health Information must be
handled, stored and transmitted in the future.
Let Aims First
assist you with this project. Once the Assessment is
completed, a thorough cost/risk analysis must be conducted.
This should include the participation of your attorney.
His legal input will be invaluable to that analysis.
The necessary modifications to facilities, practices,
policies and procedures can then be implemented and
your staff can be educated in the law and their responsibilities
concerning PHI.
